Tftp client windows 712/24/2023 I want to allow 15 students to connect to the TS-879 pro with PXE boot, and then have them access a small menu provided by the syslinux boot environment in order to select which ISO they will be using to install on the workstations local drive. Just booting to a syslinux environment is not enough though. The author makes available tools to create a bootloader that will work in a PXE environment. I would like to summarize what I think I learned so far from the link. I have started reading the link, it is very detailed. It is some sort of "PXEboot" file that will in turn direct the client computer to boot to whatever iso I wish. The initial PXE file that is asked for from the Qnap screens is NOT a iso file. I lurked around in these forums and read your posts. Now I have never done any PXE boot systems before. PXE begins, and connects, but I get a error "File Access/Name" error. The optiplex boots up, connects to the NAS DHCPĥ. Copied a iso file to the "/Public" directoryĤ. Enabled PXE and TFTP and DHCP on the NAS.ģ. Set my computers to boot from NIC with PXEĢ. What I want to do is use the NAS to allow students to install one of the many OS images from PXE. Not good in a classroom setting when a majority of students are getting impatient. Students sit around and wait while a Windows Server 2008 install DVD takes 30 minutes to copy. The old optical drives are wearing out and installs are getting slower and slower. They come back to the next class and can start where they left off.Įvery semester, I have the students install, and re-install operating systems for various labs during the class. At the end of the class, they put the drive back into the file cabinet. Every student had their "dedicated" hard drive for the class. I use external esata hard drive docks instead of internal drives in the machines. The lab is full of Dell Optiplex and Poweredge machines. I am using a TS-879 pro in a computer lab for the purpose of teaching VMware vSphere. Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to offer.
